 Announcing the Whatizard's forum:

Ivy Wigmore, Consulting Editor

Letters! We get letters! Sometimes they're about issues, like the great master/slave controversy or offshore outsourcing. Sometimes they're refinements of technical points from our impressively erudite readership. Sometimes they're questions that we (gulp!) don't immediately have the answer to. But we just bet there's someone in the Whatis community that does.

A number of our sister sites provide forums and features like Ask the Expert that respond to readers' questions. In both cases, these are specific to a particular IT area of interest. Here at Whatis, we thought we'd like to have a general community venue: a place for our readers to discuss everything from nitty-gritty tech problems to controversial issues; from current gossip to sweeping philosophical issues.

This week we're kicking off our community forum, and we hope you'll come and put in your $0.02. Ask, answer, ponder or pontificate -- come have your say in the Whatizards' Forum!

This week in the Forum:

From 1rabella: Linus' Linux or not?
How about the claim that Linus Torvalds didn't create Linux but developed it out of Minix?

There's a lot of opinion floating around, mostly running anti-Linus. Torvalds comment? "Ok, I admit it. I was just a front-man for the real fathers of Linux, the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus." There's an interesting Slashdot discussion that, typically, evolves from discussing the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus to the existence/non-existence of God.
Well, Torvalds famously said "My name is Linus, and I am your god." What do you think? Does Linus have clay feet?

From techconfused: data transfer and time
I am a sales agent for wireless devices and the faq I am constantly asked is how many hours can you access the internet.........welllllllll we do not monitor by time we sell by megabytes. Now my question, is there any possible way to establish a time limit for say 10mb, 25mb, 60mb, or 150mb is there some way to convert this to time so my customers will understand?
Is it possible to translate megabytes as time? What advice do you have for techconfused?
