I got this out of the KB:
Question/Problem: How can I get WhatsUp Gold to send a notification when the NT Service plug-in restarts a service? It appears that the plug-in promptly restarts the service on failure and does not consider the failure an incident that needs to be reported.
Answer/Solution: A successful NT Service restart is not recorded as a down event and does not trigger an alert. This is due to the fact that the WhatsUp Gold monitor system is two state or binary in nature. There is a work around. You can configure two custom services, one without the restart and one with the restart. Apply both to your device. The first one will trigger the alert and the second will restart the service.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Logging when service is to restart on failureI have an NT service installed on my servers. It is prone to stopping for reasons unknown. I have installed the NT service plug-in and can monitor the service.I can have the service restarted on failure.OR,I can have a message sent, pop-up, SMTP, etc., and get an event logged in the WhatsUp Event Log.I would like all of these things to occur, (i.e. to know that the service stopped and was restarted, and when) so that I can keep the service up and still troubleshoot.Any insight?Thank you,Paul Suggitt B.Sc., MCSESenior Systems AdministratorIntellitactics Inc.Tel: 519-743-0144 ex. 118www.itactics.com[EMAIL PROTECTED]
