The change from TCP to UDP should have fixed your problem. Try rebooting?
I'm kind of new to WUG, and got the reducing timeout from another WUG Forum
e-mail which I copied to this e-mail below.
Peter,
A False Negative is when you get an indication of a problem, when there is
not a reason for it.
Many people think that just because WUG may not have give you the reason,
explicitly (or they did not find the data), that they can assume 'the host
is working well' when it might not be. A false negative may mean that a
'problem' exists, we just don't know the extent or cause of it, yet.
Troubleshooting means gathering more information and Gareth has give us all
a good lesson in using WUG to 'find' the data and also to explain the
possible situations and their 'meaning'.

Thanks for your suggestions. I did have it set for TCP but when I changed
it to UDP, it didn't make a difference.
WUG is also monitoring DNS, SNMP, and I have another Custom Service for
Lotus Notes (TCP 1352) which seem to be working fine.
I also changed the timeout value to 3 with no change but am curious why I
would want to decrease that value?

When you setup your service, did you select TCP or UDP. It should be UDP.
If that's not the problem try lowering your timeout to 2 or 3.

I'm trying to monitor DHCP services on an NT server unsuccessfully.
I've set up a custom service called DHCP with a port of 67 and timeout of
10.
I have several NT servers with DHCP, yet WUG never gets a response back.
I am running WUG 6.02 as an application.
Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks!
