Robert,
What is the timeout set for using the WUG Ping tool? If the DOS one is using
10 seconds and WUG using 5 seconds (for example) and the responder is
somewhat busy, it might take it more time to respond, but always respond
within 10 seconds. So maybe WUG is telling you the server is pretty busy,
rather than down. Just a matter of interpretation of the data.
But WUG does more than ping! If the host being checked for some Services,
then one can change the mode from ICMP (which pings first) to TCPIP (which
does not do the ping) and you will likely see substantial reductions in your
'False Alarms'.
You might also try increasing the timeout for those hosts that do not have
Service checks by WUG. That will allow more time for the remote to send the
ping response.
