Title: SMTP test fails

Hi Folks.

I am a first time user of this product and have enjoyed working with it up until this problem that won't go away. I hope you can help.

I am using What's Up Gold 6.0 and been having problems getting the WUG server to send SMTP alerts to a Windows 2000 Server/Exchange 2000 Server.

I have followed the FAQ that came with it and the changes have had no effect on the outcome. It still fails. The WUG server can send email via Outlook Express, but as that uses POP3, that may not make much of a difference.

Let me layout the physical connections cause this may be part of the problem too.

WUG Server (DMZ Zone) (Internet Routable IP)
    |
Firewall ---------> Internet
    |
Exchange Server (Internal LAN Zone) (NAT Address to a specific Internet routable IP)

I have tried using the IP of the server (it's a 172.16 address) and I have tried using the IP address that is one-to-one mapped through the firewall to a routable IP address that is also shown in DNS MX records. Both fail. I was able to use another Exchange server on a totally different subnet as a forwarder to my exchange server, until a firewall was put in place at their end.

I was also once able to do this, but not until I put the WUG server into the same domain as the exchange server. Due to sharing problems with other departments I've had to move it from my Internal network to the DMZ and made the server stand alone. I rebuilt it totally when I did this.

This Exchange/W2K server is running active directory and is in native mode, but I can pass SMTP traffic through it and receive from it as well.

I hope this is enough to let you pass on some ideas to me on where to go next.
