haven't tried it. ipswitch has a whitepaper or a section in the help about
running wug as a service so i'm sure it's supported.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know how WUG behaves in this situation?
If the slave WUG is run as a service and detects an error on one of it's
maps, will it report an error condition? Or, does this only monitor if WUG
is running on the slave?

Adam

You can run WUG as an NT service on the slave systems by using the SRVANY
utility included in the NT resource kit. Once it runs as a service you've
got it, right? Here are the only instructions to use for SRVANY,
Microsoft's are bogus (man) ;-)

Hi Adam,

Here is an idea that worked for us (not ideal). Setup the slave WUG to run
a NT service such as FTP. Have the master WUG monitor the NT FTP service on
the slave.

If the slave has a device or app that fails to respond, have it execute a
program locally (batch file) that basically stops the NT FTP service and
have it send a trap to the master.

The above results in a color change on the master representing the slave.

I hope that gives you some ideas.

Sincerely,

Michael Patterson

Has anyone successfully enabled WUG to monitor remote installations of WUG?
What I am trying to do is create a master/slave relationship. I would like
to monitor the status of remote WUG programs by one master installation. I
have been successful at enabling SNMP traps to report back to the master and
spawn the desired built in notification. However, I cannot cause the master
map to reflect it as a down service and give me an icon color change (other
than the highlighted name).

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

Adam
