Clients or recipient mail servers? (Just a little confused...)

Yes it is off topic and since we were off topic already....you are right it
has nothing to do with the discussion, I just assumed that since he was
subscribed to the WUG list he might use Imail as well....there is a huge gap
of logic there - my bad dude :P. Anyway, I have checked and his MTA at least
is Micro$oft. I have added an auto-reply to my account just to see what
happens when an Imail server receives a message with "precedence: bulk"
header.

Run over the hallway and point that out. :) I believe Imail also has a big
bug with BCC headers currently.

At the risk of drifting off-topic...

Messages from a list should not generate the autoreply whilst normal email
should.

Examine the headers on this message and you will see the following:

Precedence: bulk

The autoreply agent should be looking for such a header when determining
whether or not the message comes from a list.

See:

http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-palme-mailext-headers-06.txt

..which is an update of RFC2076. The definition of the Precedence header
includes the following.. "Other uses is to control automatic replies and to
control return-of-content facilities, and to stop mailing list loops." The
problem is that the same definition also says "Non-standard, controversial,
widely used." Which explains why many autoresponders get it right and some
do not.

Since I received this message, your test didn't work. Please don't leave
your office with these settings turned on. I receive enough email already.
Thanks...Jim
