I use MS SQL Server 200 in a cluster and I monitor it by the SQL Servername.

In Cluster server there should be 2 ip addresses on of the cluster and the
other of the service that is clustered.

Ex.

Cluster name envclus
Cluster Address 10.2.4.11
SQL Server name - SQL
SQL Server IP Address 10.2.4.12

I would either montior it by name (which mostly your clients will have to
resolve to or by the ip address of the service.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] How to monitor SQL service on a cluster server

Hello,

Name: Rudy Standaert
Address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Company:Honda Europe NV
Product: WhatsUp Gold 7.0

In the knowledge database of Ipswitch I found the following:

Question/Problem: What settings are required for the following custom
service: Sybase SQL-Server on NT

Answer/Solution: This broadcasts on port 1433. Just set up the send to
disconnect:
QUIT\r\n.

I set up this service.
It works find for a 'simple' server.

However I have been asked to monitor this service on a server cluster (The
cluster is made up of 2 servers with the use of Cluster Administration of
Windows). I try to monitor the service on the IP address of the cluster
(because I am not sure on which of the servers the service will be active).
This does not work. I wonder why.

Thanks and kind Regards,

Rudy
