I noticed unexpected behavior when running a network analyzer on our WhatsUp server today. When WUG performs a port interrogation, it is creating two sockets simultaneously. For example, when polling our SMTP server, there were two sockets opened to port 25 on the mail server. One had a local port of 1550, the other of 1551. Both were opened within milliseconds of each other.
If I telnet to port 25, the trace only shows one socket opened, thus it seems to be a WUG issue. WUG is running only in console mode, not as a service. The icon is only on one map. We are running WhatsUp version 6.02. Any clues or details on exactly how WUG checks ports? Thanks, Ray Sbrusch Diverse Networks, Inc.
