Don't know where I could have this configured incorrectly in version 7, but here is my issue.
We have alerts set-up like this for most items: Group/AdminGroup 3 0 2400 (trigger on 3 bad polls, 24 hour alerting) Group/AdminGroup 60 0 2400 (1 hour later) Group/AdminGroup 120 0 2400 (2 hours later) Group/AdminGroup 180 0 2400 (3 hours later) Group/AdminGroup 240 0 2400 (4 hours later) Each alert is set for notify on up, notify even if acknowledged. If we have an item that goes down, we'd get paged hourly until the item was acknowledged as down by an on-call person or until we were beyond the 240 poll mark where no further pages were issued. (most alerts are ACK'd within 15 mins by one of 4 on-call techs) When the op acks the item as down, we used to only get an alert when the item came back up. Now, since version 7, we get alerts hourly, regardless of acknowledgment AND we get an equal number of UP alerts for each hour the item was down. This used to work as configured in previous versions (4 & 5) Is this a bug, or at some point was there a change in the alerting engine?
