In my experience it is usually an RPC connection that has bombed. Event log usually tells you what was going on - though not always!

I didn't check it last time it stopped responding, so I don't know if that was the problem, but I'll add that to the list of services monitored on that box. Thanks for the idea. -----Original Message----- From: Williamson, Scott [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2002 5:57 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] MAPI Monitoring If MAPI stops working, is it because the Remote procedure call (RPC) service has stopped? You could monitor that service using the NT service plug-in if it is. Regards, Scott -----Original Message----- From: Tim Evans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 05 February 2002 18:26 To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] MAPI Monitoring Is there any way to monitor MAPI connectivity? I've got an exchange server that occasionally "goes to sleep" on me. It stops responding to MAPI calls, but all the services are still running, the POP3, IMAP etc service still accept connections (enough to keep WUG happy) and there are no entries in the event log to indicate that anything is abnormal. Rebooting the server cures the problem. If I could find a way to attempt a MAPI connection and send an alarm if it fails, I would be very happy. Any ideas?
