Chris,

No, it will only pull data from the ST-yyyy-mm-dd.tab files that
match your date range. The majority of the processing time 
is consumed by the report engine. One way to significantly improve reporting 
performance, is to increase the statistics log update interval.  The default is
hourly.  If you don't need this level of granularity you can
increase this to say 24.  
Configure->Program Options->Logging->Advanced...
