I am not aware of any "hacks" to modify the existing WhatsUp Gold recurring notification feature, but below is what we have asked for as a future release enhancements:

It would appear that no additional functionality was added from version 7.04 to 8.0

Jon,
at this time that is the way WUG is designed.  However I have reported the
request to our R&D department and hopefully that feature will be implemented
in future releases.

Is there a way to add a service down name in a recurring e-mail
notification?

You can check the box to include the add the DOWN names, but not services
or custom services.

Also, you cannot create a recurring report to add the variable %V to
enumerate the service.

If we schedule hourly recurring notifications to be sent via e-mail, the
message delivered is not explicit. It shows the name of the device down,
but not the specific service in question. It would be more valuable to
include not only the name, but also the service with an issue. We conclude
this because there may be multiple services being monitored for each Named
device.

This would be a good enhancement for WUG v7.04 or V8.0

Thanks...

At the moment, there is not a way to split up the recurring notifications.
You will get notified on any and all maps that are open and monitoring at
the time of the recurring report.  I'm not sure if this will change for
version 8 or not - I haven't heard.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Recurring Notifications email customization

I've set up a recurring notifications email every hour, works great but I would like to throw in a few customization to it......formating / text / add a hyperlink /etc...

I know you can't do this via the main program but I thought there must be a hack for this.....
