Now that last part just might work... Good idea...

You could use the NOTES field. Edit your devicedetails.asp file to make
that field show big and bold. Maybe even put it at the top of the page.

As for a page with all of the fields, you could create an asp page that
would go through all of the maps and list their NOTES fields. Once you had
that page written you could do anything you wanted with it. You could have
it popup when you go to a page. You could put a link to it in your header
page.

You could also create a program notification that would clear out the NOTES
field for that device when it came up.

For that matter, if you didn't want to use the NOTES field because it was
used for other things already, you could create a folder under your WUG web
folder. In that folder have text files for each downed item. Something
based off the host name (HOSTNAME.txt). Then use the INCLUDE tag to add
that file to the devicedetails.asp page. Then your program notification
would only have to delete that file. A lot easier to write a batch file for
that.

OK here we go for about the last few versions...

I would like to see something right along with that but a lot stronger. lets
say they add something like the "NOTES" field except call it "TroubleTicket"
or something along those lines. Then ANY info in that field would display IN
YOUR FACE when your are on the device. That way ALL techs would know what is
going on. Also somehow tie all of those from a link off of the root page.
(something that scrolls, something that pops up or maybe something you have
to click) Then to help on clean up make all of those TroubleTicket entries
clean up when the device/service/etc is up X number of polls. It could also
send an e-mail stating it was cleaned up.

Along with that a TRUE calendar would be nice to schedule events months out
or even recurring.

And of course %IF% CHANGE_NOT_SAVED after X polls THEN e-mail.... That would
fix their little red wagon. Or simply %IF% CHANGE_MADE regardless send
e-mail.

I feel your pain brother, I have about 10,000 items checked and hate it when
I see something stupid like that.

Double Argh!

It's nice to see that a map has 'unsaved changes' by placing an asterisk on
the title bar of the map (gui mode)

But it would be nice to know which device (or devices) has the unsaved
changes. Is it possible to make some sort of indication that shows which
item(s) have been modified? Maybe placing a colored asterisk in the upper
left corner of the icon of the device? (similar to the SNMP marker on those
devices). It's quite time consuming when you have scores of items in a
single map and you need to find out what has changed.

I keep pretty close tabs on our monitoring system - but have some helping
hands on staff that aren't as well disciplined to log changes - or save
them. It's always a nice surprise to get a call from a customer that we are
supposed to notify of an outage because their alerts have been disabled
during the last maintenance window. Argh!

Thanks!
