I am happy with the WUG webserver, but I believe you can configure IIS to serve your pages if you like. If IPSwitch were to offer the capability to switch between to console and web views, that would be nice. Since I agree and I know they have great developers, I think a request/suggestion should be followed by a recommended solution: Since the problem that seems to exist when running the Service and the Console simultaneously is the fact that two instances of the web server are trying to run on the same port I think one way to do this is to display a "Checkbox and submit/load button on a web form. This check box would be "hook" to a property that runs the Console GUI without starting a new instance of a web server. When the box is checked and submitted, it starts the Console GUI without starting a web server. When the gui is closed, the service remains running. However, when the console is started by clicking on the executable, the "no-webserver" property has no been set, and the warning appears if the service is running. It is sort of like passing a startup parameter for the GUI. For instance if there an option to start the GUI from a DOS prompt: the command "whatsupgold.exe -nw" could start the GUI without starting a webserver. This is just a shot in the dark. I do not know the back end of how the Console operates. -----Original Message----- From: Luz Berger [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wed 7/2/2003 8:16 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: Subject: RE: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] Something that would be a nice update...
Hi Jay,
I don't think WUG has any plans to have IIS serve maps. However, IIS if used
the way it is supposed to be used is no more prone to errors and hacking
attempts then any other server. Having your maps and details available to
the internet is not recommended, no matter what server you are using. Unless
you use some form of VPN.

Apache Yes, IIS never. The thought of having your network plotted with
IP's and services listed, then get it served up by a hacker's delight
does not sit well with me. The day IPswitch pushes WUG onto IIS is the
day I stop upgrading.
