I monitor the SQL services (MS SQL Service, Full Text Search, MS DTC, SQL Agent, etc.) on the SQL Cluster Virtual server, then monitor each node for just the cluster admin service. For a two node SQL 2000 cluster (active/passive), I have four device icons. The Server VIP, the two real server nodes and the SQL instance VIP.

The SQL plug-in was good (at least the beta version during testing). However, I could not justify to management, the additional cost to buy the production release during 2003. Maybe next year.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] SQL Cluster Monitoring

Is anyone monitoring a SQL2000 Cluster?  If so, is there any special tricks to doing this?  I'm using version 8.01 and I'm monitoring the SQL Service on my other machines.  It doesn't seem so straight forward for a SQL Cluster.  Any help would be appreciated.

Also, we are looking into the SQL Monitor add-in.  Is there a very beneficial add-in?

Thanks.
