I tried the .REG fix posted by Kevin Fradley and it worked great. The nice thing
about a .REG file is that you can give it to your users and say "here, run this".

As I previously pointed out, an alternate workaround is to use Mozilla as a browser.
It never had the security flaw that affected IE and is not affected by this week's
patch.

You and Alonzo Seaborne have both identified that the WhatsUp Gold webserver does not
authenticate using NTLM (or have AD integration, etc). This is something that is on
the feature request list, along with stuff like supporting NTLM authentication when
performing HTTP monitoring, offering SSL support for both the internal webserver and
when monitoring HTTPS.

I'm in full agreement with you Mark, Microsoft broke a perfectly valid and legal use.
I'm just asking...is there something you could do with one of the other workarounds
Microsoft recommends on the server/asp side?. That is my real question.

(Not to mention WUG could use AD or some other directory service as an alternative to
the local authentication db so that seamless login could be performed, but we won't go
down that road today.)

One thing is for sure... the problem your are experiencing is not caused by your
WhatsUp Gold software. It's caused by your patched Internet Explorer. The only people
who can fix the problem are the folks at Microsoft, who removed support for a
perfectly valid URL form.

Well, unless I'm missing something this is exactly what we've been using for years and
exactly what the MS patch broke. How is this going to fix the problem?

1. Before I go out and hack 1500 PC registries, is IPSwitch going to be able to do
something for those of us who need to secure the site, but still need read-only access
for "public" use without a userid and password required?

2. Has anyone else found a better or easier workaround for the WUG site?

It needs to be done on the client machine browsing to the Whats Up Web Site NOT the
Whats Up server itself.

Well, I found the article posted by Steve Warnock about how to do the reg fix, but in
the registry on the Whats'up Gold server, there isn't a Key called
Feature_HTTP_Username_Password_Disable to create the two DWORDs under. I put it in
manually and restarted the server Whatsup Gold is on and I still can't access the
site.

Anyone have an idea? TIA.

Are you passing username:password in the URL? If so see the threads from yesterday for
the Q article

I applied mine with no problems.

This morning my team lead had me install Microsoft's Q832894 patch. Well, after
install that and rebooting, neither of us could view the What'sup Gold website. I can
still view it on my XP box that has the patch, but I didn't reboot it yet. Anyone
know why this is happening? Should I run the patch on the server that has What'sup
Gold on it? TIA for your help.
