I gases I wasn't clear. I have sum understanding in SUBNETTING but none in English What I wonted to achieve by this is to pin out all the switches on my Network white 160 Nets The switches have the ip off 192.168.X.180 - 182 . And it's work fine when I do manual ICMP scan on the MAP (Network - 192.168.0.176 Netmask - 255.255.0.248).
The problem is white 'Active discovery'. on the same MAP it discovers ip like '192.198.5.2' I am Using WUpG 8.03HF1 Thanks Shai שי אלקיים אגף טכנולוגיות מידע -----Original Message----- From: Bryan Harrell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, March 03, 2004 5:25 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [WhatsUp Forum] Unrgular mask Shai, The reason it's giving you all of the 192.168.x.176 networks is because the NETMASK filters out all addresses covered up by 0's and considers the rest as network addresses. With a netmask of 255.255.0.248, it's should scan every calculated 192.168.x.y network for the host addresses (x.y) between 0.176 and 255.183. Try using the actual network subnet mask for the network you are scanning (It's only a guess, but try 255.255.255.248), and see if that doesn't work better for you... If you're not intimately familiar with how subnetting works, do an internet search on "SUBNETTING" and you should find any number of references or you can pick up any book that explains TCP/IP addressing, as they can explain it far better with pictures than I can here with verbal descriptions. ------------------------------------------------------------ Bryan Harrell, SPII Network Transport & Administration - Tallahassee Fla. But Active discovery for this seting gives all the scope (192.168.0.176 - 192.168.255.254) Thanks in advance.
