I believe with the latest WUG 8 you can adjust the ping packet sizes.
Not sure if that would really have much affect, but something to try.

Thanks,

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Satellite network - Routers showing down I can
ping them with WuGold

I am a former user of the version 5 of WG. I currently use WB version 8
over a satellite network.

When WG 8 monitors my network it constantly looks like half of my
devices are not responding. When I right click on them to use the
manual ping tool I can ping devices that were showing not responding.

Out of curiosity I used WG 5 and monitored the very same devices and
this time devices are all showing as up constently.

Could there be something in WG 8 that make's it more sensitive to ping
request as opposed to WG5?

I am not sure how to properly configure WG8 so that it shows a realistic
portrait of up and down devices.

For your information :

a) Polling time out is set at 4 seconds in both cases (WG 5 or 8)
b) Average response time when WG polls devices is 700 ms (Satellite
latency).

Please advise.

Luc
