I am looking for a way to audit some of my log files. The log files I'm looking at auditing are system audit logs. (NMAP for example.) The log has a lot of info, and reading it each week would be a waist of time. However if I had a way to create a log file of what changed from the last log file it would be an easy tool to use and be able to get useful info out of it. I use a number of tools to create these audit files, but I would spend all week looking at them to see what changed.
Do any of you do something like this? Any suggestions on software to compare these files and give me a useful output. Open source or freeware would be best, but commercial software is ok. It would be important to be able to automate this process. I really would like to on Monday morning just open a folder of this audit change log files and see what changed last week. Then I can assign tasks based off this info.
