Daniel,

Our Mailserver ist about 5 Years old and we are still using Exchange 5.5 on
a NT4-Box. Having >3000 Mails/day passing this one server, it may last a
while until you get an answer until you have to take action. A "normal"
response time for that one server would be 30-40 sec. We are using WhatsUp
to check also services and restart them if necessary.

WhatsUp: Simply a great product at a fair price.

Kind regards
Martin

Martin,

Each device on the map has its own timeout, but I don't recall if it
will go to 60 seconds (use HELP when you are on that screen). Be aware
that if this map is checked every 60 seconds and the timeout on that
device is reached, that could cause WUG to miss some polls.

If my SMTP service took 60 seconds to respond, I'd be trying to figure
out why it was so slow and fixing it. Even at 30 seconds, I'd want to
know why it is slow. I suppose if this is over a low bandwidth
connection, the timeout might need to be slightly longer (a few
seconds to allow for latency), but I cannot see a reason for it to be
3-6 times longer. Maybe you could explain?

In WuG 4.05 there was a "slow network" button, which extended the Poll
timeout.

we would like to use a similar function to monitor SMTP Services (30
to 60
sec would be great). Do you have any suggestions how to implement this
in
WuG 7? (Sorry, we haven't updated yet to WuG 8)

Kind regards
