I process all SNMP messages from my devices. I found it difficult to process all
events (UP, DOWN, SNMP, SVCUP, SVCDOWN) with a single Whatsup SMTP mail message. Also,
by using a program I have greater control over the message content. The clearer I can
make the message, the better.

I filter out those SNMP messages that are irrelevant. Additionally, I have added code
to my VBScript that does message suppression. By that I mean if a given device starts
producing an SNMP event over and over again, I limit the number of messages (for that
particular SNMP event on the specific device) to one every five minutes (enough to get
someone's attention, but not some many that it drives them crazy).

Have you tried using the the filtering capabilities of the WhatsUp Gold Event system
(ie, matching against OID and/or payload)?

I found that using the SMTP messages greatly limited the messages I cold send. I use a
program notification using VBScript programs. I can filter messages Ii.e. some SNMP
messages can be ignored) and provide more meanignful messages.
