I've got my WUG system monitoring over 100 maps and configured as you've described yours. I used the Autodiscover on "at least one service" to map out each subnet and then excluded those devices that show up that I really don't care about (printers mostly). It also locates those users PC's running personal WEB servers and allows me to have the Helpdesk staff disable them since they are not authorized for use here. The only problem I have is if a major link (like the firewall between us and the field sites goes down, the system still tries to monitor the field sites anyway, even though it can't get there (I've yet to find a way, nor do I believe WUG supports it, is to set up dependencies between maps so they will not be polled if the parent map with a link between them is down. Overall, ths works well for us. Oh, something else is that you'll want to eventually run WUG as a service (less processor intensive) except for those times when you need to make changes to maps which can not be done via the WEB interface (map layout, Linking interfaces, adding events to the list of available events to select from, etc) Also the ordering was something to get used to, but since my WUG server is located on a sub-map near the bottom, I scroll down there to start with and then work my way back up.
FWIW, you can set the ordering using a context and then return to using the load map with sub-maps and it will work that way also (it's a kludge but it works). ------------------------------------------------------------ Bryan Harrell, SPII Network Transport & Administration - Tallahassee Fla. Now, I'm monitoring more and more devices on different subnets and am therefore creating a new map for each subnet as a "child" maps. I've got WUG set up to open my parent map at startup and "Automatically load subnets when opening maps" is on. When I start up WUG it opens ALL of my maps in cascaded windows. I've just began creating my additional maps and this is already driving me nuts. I'm just curious how some of you experienced users out there with LOTS of maps have WUG configured. All I want to see is my parent map at startup but I want all of the devices in the child maps to be continuously monitored. I'm wondering if I should simply minimize all of the child maps and save it as a "context" and then change the config to open that context at startup instead of my parent map???? Any suggestions from you experienced users would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
