Suggestion - please revisit how WUG generates its reports... (this is geared
towards IPSwitch technical support)

We depend on the WUG reports heavily and have adjusted our processes to deal
with a bug in the WUG report feature to properly report device down time
past midnight but would like it to be fixed in future releases.

What we see is that if a device goes down and back up before midnight that
it reports okay. The total incident down time is calculated correctly.

If a device goes down and stays down past midnight the report indicates this
and calculates the down time up to midnight.

The problem is that when the device comes back up after midnight - it is not
properly accounted for since WUG report module doesn't see a corresponding
down event for that device for that date - it only sees an up event.

Say if you have a device that goes down on the 22nd at 10:40PM and you run a
summary report for the 22 to the 22, the report shows that it was down a
total of 01:19.
Now if you run a report for the 23 to the 23 it shows that the device was
down for a total time of 01:14.
Now here's the rub.... If you run a report spanning the 22 and 23 it reports
that the device was down a total amount of 03:05. This shows that a total of
32 minutes is unaccounted for which is actually the time past midnight when
the device came back up (at 0031).

What is important here is accuracy. We rely on these reports to generate our
total device downtimes because we are on a SLA (Service Level Agreement)
contract and must maintain maximum device uptime or be able to explain
downtime minutes.

What I would like to propose is that
1) IPSwitch fix the report module to account for devices that span midnight
2) Provide the capability to run a report not based solely on dates. We
would like to see the ability to run a report say from 3PM to 3PM..... Or
some other based report.

Some notes here -
We have automated the report generation process (using the WUG command line
report tool) to kick of the daily reports every night at 11:59 for the
previous day, per map.
We do this for both the summary and detail reports for historical reporting
and parsing purposes.
We are using WUG 8.03HF1

Thanks!

Scott
