Running WhatsUp Gold as a Service using Windows 2003
With the new Windows 2003 operating system, Microsoft has tightened application
security for services using the default > > 'Local System' account. Therefore in
order to operate WhatsUpG and its components as a service using Windows 2003, you will
need to start the 'WhatsUp Gold Service' running under a specific account that has
administrative privileges. To help make this easy we have provided a special Ipswitch
'RunAs' utility for WhatsUp Gold. This utility allows you to easily set up the
correct logins for the 'WhatsUp Gold Service' and its components all at once.

If you only run WhatsUp Gold as a console application, this step is not necessary.

Betreff: [WhatsUp Forum] WhatsUp Exchange & SQL Monitor Plug-In Fail to
Monitor SQL and Exchange v2000 at Windows 2003

When we use Whatsup Gold SQL Server Plugin to monitor the SQL Servers and
Exchange Server. After we have set the WMI security properties correctly
according to the manual, they successfully monitor the SQL Server v2000
installed at Windows 2000, but failed to monitor SQL Server v2000 if it is
installed at Windows 2003 server with error message "Class List Is Empty".

Similar message was encountered when they monitor Exchange server with
error message "Class List Could Not Be Found".

Running C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wbemtest.exe "WMI Tester" at Windows 2000
with SQL 2000 machine to inspect the WMI Object at Object path root\CIMV2,
reveal the presence of various SQL parameters. However, running
wbemtest.exe to inspect the same objects 'root\cimv2', we couldn't find any
SQL related parameters at Windows2003 machine with SQL2000.

We feel that it's a real constraint for the Whatsup monitor plug-in to
monitor both SQL2000 and Exchange2000 installed at Windows2003 machine, due
to absence of required WMI Objects.

Does anybody have the similar experience?
If you have successfully monitor SQL2000 and Exchange 20000 installed at
Windows2003 machine, please let us know.

Thanks
