Use the auto-archive but do not instruct WUG to handle deletion for you.. there is a known memory leak here.
In answer to the question "Can I just get rid of all .TAB", the answer is "Yes". Each TAB file is named with a datestamp, so it's easy to decide which ones to get rid of based on age. You can even delete the current TAB files whilst WUG is running, if that's what you want to do. The only exception are the syslog logs.. the syslog service locks the current log. If you wish to delete the current syslog log, stop the syslog service, delete the log, and then restart the syslog service.
