For those of you not in the forum this is a response to a post in the forum.
I will try to make this my last input on the subject. Please don't get me wrong. I think the forum is a good thing. I just have some concerns. I think they are big you might not. I think having two support groups is not a good idea. I think it is a very bad idea. I can't think of one reason why/how splitting this group in two is a good or useful idea. Now keeping that in mind, everything I have been asking for is to keep the group together and have it moved to the forum side of things. Every other forum I am on (Cisco, UltraVNC just to name a few) when you subscribe to the forum you get the whole message sent to your email. With the UltaVNC you can even reply to the email and have it posted to the forum. So please don't tell me this does not exist, because I use it every day. With that simple feature you can have your forum and other can have their mailing list, without all of us having to use both to keep up with everything. I just want to say again that I have nothing against the idea of a forum. However all of the features that have been talked about with a forum I was already using with the old mailing list. I had a spell check. Now I have to use Word for that and cut and paste. I know the forum has a spell check, but it doesn't even know Ipswitch or Cisco. Or 25% of the English language. I could start writing a post save it, and then finish it a few days later as time allowed. Well I could write and email then cut and paste to the forum. To view a thread all I needed to do was sort by subject. Or I could go to the archive and have them all there by thread. I could easily tell what messages I have read and what messages are new to me. Now I have to have a third product RSS to see what I have not read already. I could save messages I wanted to keep for reference. Here we go with cutting and pasting again. I could flag messages I wanted to go back and look at. If I wanted to search the history of the list I just went the archives that Ipswitch kept. Ok the search feature could have been a little better, but it worked. If I wanted to get input from everyone all I had to do was send one email. Now I have to write the email then copy and paste it to the forum. I could read the messages off line if I wanted to. Which I do most of the time. No way to do that now. I could respond to the messages off line if I wanted to. Which I do most of the time. No way to do that now. As for out of office and return receipts a simple filter took care of most of them and Ipswitch could of added it on their side so we all wouldn't have to. So as for new features that you can only get in the forum well I haven't found any yet. I'm part of this list because I want to learn more about the product. I do most of the reading and responding on my own time. (At lunch, sitting in traffic). This was very easy to do when we had the mailing list. Now with the forum I can't do this. Well without spending $50 a month on a wireless handheld Internet service. I know I can still use just the mailing list, but I think that is like asking someone to just use the left side of your car. I'm on 10+ mailing lists / forums, and this is the only one that does not send the full message via email when subscribed. As I said many times before I'm not against to the forum, but I think it NEEDS to have email support, so the WUG user group in not split in two. I can't talk for everyone, but I think that the users that don't want to use the forum and would like to keep their email would be happy to subscribe to the forum and get all the messages via email.
