we have snmp monitors for the system state of every (major) hardware label. it is nice
to receive an abstract "hp system state down" and then check the insight manager for
further information. this monitor is triggered by raid, power supply, temperature
probes and so on. we designed these monitors for hp/compaq, fujitsu siemens and dell.

Hi!

New to this with SNMP I thought of asking you out there how you (and if) you
are using SNMP to monitor.
This might gives some hints on how to best use it.

Whats I find interesting would be if you are using traps or if WUG is
reading values.

Do you have many snmp-traps or monitors configured? (if I calculate quickly
there would be several snmp-events for every device.. And Windows server
must have like 20 monitors)

How do you decide what to monitor?

How do you find the right OID's and values?

How are you sure you are monitoring the right values?

I'm sure theese questions are "stupid" but for a beginner it's easier to
follow the path of thoose who knows. ;-)
