WhatsUp Gold and the upcoming WhatsUp Pro both bind to all IPs. Just like IIS. Using the info in the article you managed to force IIS to confine itself to a single IP. That's great.. but it does not help you yet because it's WhatsUp Professional, not WhatsUp Gold which has the ability to use IIS as its web server. ie, you would run two IIS, each bound to a separate IP, with one being the webserver for WhatsUp Professional.
There is an alternative, though, something that works today. Try running the WhatsUp Gold webserver on a different port. The drawback that users need to know the port in order to connect to it can be dealt with by tricks like adding a link on yout IIS webserver pages that will take the user to the WhatsUp Gold web interface. Many thanks for your response Mark. I tried it and unfortunately it did not work for me but the Microsoft Q article you pointed me to did indeed keep IIS from binding to both IPs. It just seems that WUG still won't co-exist with IIS. I tried sopping and starting the listeners in different orders as well as changing the IP addresses back and forth and nothing seemed to work for me. Simply put, this doesn't work (for me): +-------------+ | 10.1.1.1:80 |<----> IIS | ^ | | | | | (One NIC) | | | | | v | | 10.1.1.2:80 |<----> WhatsUp +-------------+ MYSERVER If anyone else has any more suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Otherwise I'll be waiting for WUG Professional. We have a database for managing the tracking of Defects and Feature Requests. So, yes, it is an identified issue and now the number of user reports has grown by one (which is you). I cannot say when any individual Defect will be fixed or Feature Request implemented. However, it certainly helps when users explain why a particular issue is impacting them. It puts things in perspective.. makes it harder to say "this would not be seen in practice". Now the good news. It's already been mentioned on the forum in the last couple of days that the upcoming WhatsUp Professional will be able to use IIS as its webserver. Well, IIS has exactly the same "problem" as WhatsUp.. it binds to all IPs. But it can be tweaked... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;259349 Thus, all things being equal, this might solve your problem. Unless I am missing something =) Mark -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Noren, Bill Sent: 28 October 2004 16:26 To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [WhatsUp Forum] Can you use IIS or another webserver in place of What'sUp? Thanks for the reply Mark. I'm new to the list; what's a "logged Defect"? Is it an identified issue that will someday be fixed? If so, is there any timeline on when it might get addressed? This is a logged Defect. It also affects the syslog server and SNMP Trap Handler. I updated the Defect with your details. How about this - can I bind WUG to only one IP address on my server so that I use another one for IIS? I haven't found anything in WUG webserver that is IP specific. Thanks in advance folks!
