When your SNMP monitoring environment is set up as a 'trap' environment (as opposed to a 'polled' environment), the biggest difference is that V3 not only sends the trap from client to the master server, but retrieves a confirmation (header) that the trap indeed 'got to' or has been received by the master server. Earlier versions (client nodes) would 'send' a trapb with no guarantee that it reached it's destination. Kindof like a scream in the dark... Besides syntax and info in the MIBS, that's what stood out for me as a hugh advantage when 'selling' the validity and most of all, dependability of a monitored enviroment to a suit or board of suits.
