WhatsUp Gold can handle SNMPv1 Traps.

This is normally sufficient. However, I have seen one equipment manufacturer
which generates SNVPv2 traps and does NOT allow configuration that would allow
fall back and use of SNMPv1 traps instead. These SNMPv2 traps are seen by
WhatsUP Gold but are not properly decoded. If they are not decoded they cannot
be matched against an Event defition.

WhatsUp Professional will be able to handle SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 traps. (As an
aside, it also suppports trap forwarding (Proxying)).

So, if your HP Servers only generate SNMPv2 traps then that would explain the
claim about WhatsUp Gold. And it also lets you know that you will be OK with
WhatsUp Professional.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Insight Manager Needed?

We are bringing network monitoring in-house with WUG. The organization
currently monitoring our network is using a combination of WUG and HP
Systems Insight Manager (HPSIM) because they claim WUG will not capture
all the HPSIM agent traps. Is that true? Or can we forego installing
HPSIM and only use WUG to fully monitor our HP servers?

Thanks.
Glen
