Is anybody enjoying WUP in comparison with WUG?
My answer after a few hours of looking at this stuff
is - NOWAY. I stay with WUG before WUP proves me its
worth.
I see it's a different product with some similarities
to WUG. After first installation WUP messes up a WUG
web server though it keeps a WUG folder untouched. All
maps have to be edited because of moving labels and
icons in the WUP interface. I have 150 of them and it
will take a while to edit them. So I uninstalled WUP
and made clean installation on the different box for
testing only to see if I need it. Web interface is
working now but I cannot open old WUG maps in the
console view anymore - WUP is not backward compatible.
30 days before activation is enough to decide to get
rid (most likely) or keep it.
JavaScript instead of nice and cute WhastUp team
invented script language in .asp files makes obsolete
all work on modifications done for my current WUG web
interface, to make it more user friendly than original
one. So now it's all over again to bring WUP Web
Interface to a convenient view.
There are many more issues in WUP for WUG user, i.e.
removing a bunch of shortcuts and necessary menu
functions in a console view. So there are too many
cons with just a few pros (i.e., automatic linking
maps up and down) to switch from WUG to WUP. I prefer
to access and edit maps as files such as .xml, it's
fast to do automatically, and I hate encapsulating all
data into Access/SQL Server - style one piece. Lost
flexibility, inconvenience, poor WUP Help file, and so
on and on and on..
Thanks to Ipswitch I can still use WUG 8, a great tool
for money.
Best regards,
Oleg
