hi

today i finally tried to upgrade my test box from wup 8.03 to wup 2005

i decided to use hte default MSDE database adn it went thru the import of settings and maps etc at the end there was a very long list of failed to import items but most of these did not make any sense to me.

i opened up whatsup gold and it is indeed a completely new interface :-) and after about 30 minutes i figured out how most of the new settings work but a proper pdf manual would be good, where can i find one?

couple of issues I encountered

1)    it does not seem that any of my NT services which i monitor have been moved over properly, they are all there but i noticed that you now need a login for each service that you monitor, by figuring if you set the whatsup service to run not as localhost but as an account with the correct priviliges solved that issue

2)    I have noticed that i have modify most of my maps with submaps etc, it is not a big deal as i only have about 25 maps but it is a pain. also i seem to be having problems setting dependencies on groups

3)    I checked in the program files folder and the whatsup website but cannot find a manual. only the wup support center with hardly any information, and i might be missing out on some new features that i can't discover!

4) i had many devices on my old map which i did not monitor  but still had them listed as devices, (for information purpose only)  after the upgrade they had their status changed to maintenance mode which caused all the icons or device groups to change from green to orange like colour, i had to remove the ping as default active monitor and untick the maintenance box to get them to work as before again.

5) on whatsup gold i had many maps which i did not monitor on the top level so they showed as grey but i did monitor the devices on the map itself, this allowed me to quickly check the status of whatsup overall by making sure the icons were green, i don't seem to be able to do this now, when i click properties the only thing i seem to be able to change is the name, i cannot set it to not monitor or not give me the status of the device group itself. is there anyway of changing this.

6 ) the actual production whatsup server which i will eventually upgrade to wup 2005 already has a MSDE database installed for insight manager so i am not sure how the upgrade is going to work for me, as i do want to import my old setttings but don't want to do a new install of MSDE.

hopefully i will be able to resolve those issues and upgrade the production server soon

thanks
rogier
