The
only way I've found is to spread them out over the map view area (even beyond
the current area). The bigger the map space, the smaller the displayed
icons.
There
is a way to not use Icons, too and that makes things much smaller. Right Click
over empty map space, select Display and click (to uncheck) Display
Icons.
