Geoff is correct.

What you are seeing is the Acknowledgement functionality that has been added
to SP1.

There is one "philosophy difference" in the way that things work in SP1.

In WhatsUp Gold, when a state changes (service going down, event received)
the Device Display Name gets the black background. Acknowledgement can be
performed via the Monitor Menu. This changes the Display Name back to
normal text. However, Acknowledgement can also be performed by
double-clicking on the Device (opening the Properties dialog) or even by
right-clicking on the device. ie, you may be Acknowledging the State Change
unwittingly.

In WhatsUp Pro 2005 SP1, Acknowledgement is carried out from the State
Change Acknowledgement Report. You can choose to Acknowledge nothing, a
single Device, a collection of Devices, or everything. It's up to you. You
can also Acnowledge..

1) Via the Tools Menu
2) By right-clicking a Device in Device View and selecting Acknowledge.

In all cases, the act of Acknowledgement is an explicit act. It does not
happen by accident. Thus, you can now inspect properties of a device
without Acknowledging the State Change.

background

There was an event that occurred. The same functionality was in WUG.
Prior to SP1, when a device missed a poll but came back up, it would go
back to green and not let you know that anything happened. SP1 changes
that by adding the black background when a poll is missed. You would
then acknowledge the event and it should go back to normal.

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Map View - Device Names with black background

List,

I just noticed something strange in map view. Some of the device names
suddenly have a black background?! What did I miss? :o
