Byron,      There are many different types of standalone environmental modules you can buy to monitor a data center. I usually recommend probes from Ravica http://www.ravica.com . They work well and are pretty inexpensive. The Bitsite2 is great because you can stick it almost anywhere. I have had experience with Dell Open Manage sending good SNMP traps when hardware fails. I’m not too sure about temp alarms. There are some tricky things about compiling the MIB. If you find you can’t get them compiled, let me know.
