Dear Forum, I have just sent following email to IPSwitch support and did also a post to the message board. And now to this forum - let's which channel works best! ;)
I'm grateful to any comment considering my problem described further below. Regards, Daniel --------------------- Dear Customer Service We extensivly use WUP 2005a pager action feature in combination with passive monitors. This has so far worked fine for us. Having installed and activated pager actions + passive monitors for some new equipment we're facing a new problem with sending pagers. Problem description: Pager exchange does not accept pagging requests with more than 80 characters. This results in a pager message not sent out, if the string behind %PassiveMonitor.Payload.VARIABLE-DESIRED exceeds 80 characters. Solution: - Work around: We modified our standart message string "WUPhost %Device.DisplayName Trap at %System.Time %PassiveMonitor.Payload.VARIABLE-DESIRED" to "%PassiveMonitor.Payload.VARIABLE-DESIRED". This results in an increase from 10% to 50% successfully sent pager notifications for this certain (new) type of infrastructure. Request: Is there a possibility to limit the number of charcters parsed from a trap (payload) to a pager action? Let's say: "parse only the first 40 characters of trap payload selected". Is there a Windows registry hack or can you provide a patch? e.g. setting %PassiveMonitor.Payload.mrvEfmDteMacGrp in message string of pager action leads to: "main server123 CRITICAL Port Link Down [Port 1.02.04: Link Down server456 GRMAHSH Module blabla] Chassis 1 Slot 2 Port 4 " but the desired result should somehow look like: "main server123 CRITICAL Port Link Down" I have just posted this email to the forum - in hope anyone can help: http://www.ipswitch.com/forums/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=14&MessageID=10859 With regards from Liechtenstein, Daniel Blaser -- Daniel Blaser System Engineer ISP Abt.
