Scott,
The Notification is
assigned to the device, not to the monitor (Although in WUPro, this can be done)
and usually the "trigger" for a notification is set to 3 or more (meaning WU
would have to perform 3 consecutive failed polls prior to sending the
notification - preventing single poll failure and a "false down"
notification).
If you have the
"Restart Service" enabled on the monitor, then as soon as WU finds the service
down, it starts it and does not send a notification. If the monitor fails
more times than the trigger for the notification, only then will it be
sent.
So do you really
want/need a notification if the service went down and restarted successfully? I
believe others have proposed a solution, having a second monitor, this time with
the Restart unchecked. See this KB: http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WG-20010418-DM01.htm

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Email notification on a service?
Question.... I am using WUG 8.04 and am monitoring NT services on some
servers. When a service fails I get a visual alert on the map but how can I get
an email notification at the same time? I do not see where I can link these
together.......
Thanks!
Scott
