I have been using Cisco's IP SLA configurations to get HTTP page load times. If your your router supports the RTTMON mib(most do), you can get a lot of good stats from it. HTTP to any server DHCP issue time DNS resoloution time Router to router jitter for VOIP more... The http checks aren't just port checks either, they download the entire page and report how long it took.
