You will understand of course that this thread was not related with
IPR or licensing, but regarding the choice of the container format for
Theora and Vorbis, if either Ogg or Matroska. And Ogg is described in
RFC 3533 as a patent-free, public domain standard for encapsulation of
data.
It may be, however, as per recent developments that the W3C needs an
independent legal counselor since it seems to be falling under
pressure of some of its corporate fund backers. If the latter turns
out to be true, it will be a pretty sad day for the Web as we know it.

Yes, of course. I just wanted to raise the point
that it may be worth holding off polishing the
language while we seek to improve the basic
position. But yes, we should (as engineers)
debate the technical merits etc. of the various
possibilities.
