When the video data is very long and complex a seek bar isn't particularly useful anyway, compared to a custom HTML interface. An application like metavid.org does a good job of syncing up long video to text transcripts, and that is good for navigation. On the other hand an archive of security cameras might seem unbounded, and use a different navigation interface. As long as an API for times are available then developers can make an interface that is useful for the content. I think it's ok to have a standard seek bar for short videos (up to an hour or two in duration) but it's not practical to mandate how that interface should work for longer videos. Conrad.
