Summary: FormComponent - working with values not pushed to the model
Initial Comment:
The different operations for accessing the current
"value" of a FormComponents (hasRawInput, getRawInput,
getModelObject, getModelValue, getValue, getInput) are
confusing all the time I have slightly more complex
form value logic. In my opinion, everything that you
should be able to get outside from a form component are
two cases:
- getModelObject (the current model object, which only
gets updated on successful form validation)
- A second method which is defined like this:
- if the form component has raw input which
can be converted according to the form
component's converter -> this converted object
(even if not valid)
- otherwise: the original model object
Such a second operation is (to my knowledge) not
available currently, so you have to express this
currently with statements like "(fc.hasRawInput() ?
fc.getConvertedInput() : fc.getModelObject())" if you
want to use converted values which are not pushed to
the model yet in a consistent way.
