thanks. this is good, but should be a little more specific in the .txt file...

things users could get tripped up on...

where does maven get installed?
how do you run it?

the description on eclipse is:

eclipse:add-maven-repo Ensures that the classpath variable |MAVEN_REPO| exists in the Eclipse environment.
The ${maven.eclipse.workspace} <http://maven.apache.org/reference/plugins/eclipse/properties.html> property *must* be set for this to succeed, and Eclipse must not be running.

but it doesn't explain what a property is or how to set it. and it doesn't explain how to set the classpath.
these seem like trivialities to the initiated, but people do stumble over them.

First, install Maven (http://maven.apache.org/start/download.html). Then run Maven on your project root. The libs should now have been downloaded and put in ${user.home}.maven/repository.

Now, either run 'maven eclipse:add-maven-repo' (see http://maven.apache.org/reference/plugins/eclipse/goals.html, you need to set the workspace property first), or add the classpath var directly in Eclipse: go to Window/Preferences/Java/Build Path/Classpath Variables, click New..., name should be 'MAVEN_REPO' and point it to ${user.home}.maven/repository.
