yes, probably. my point is just that a tree is a very sophisticated container of other components with a lot of features to consider... what kinds of treeness do we want in html land?

but a javascript tree should be just another implementation.
You don't always want i believe a tree that is completely out of javascript.
So I think we just get a few implementations of the tree..

i'm sure it's a great tree. i just remember JTree taking forever to write...

+1 core
If we really don't want swing dependency then we could copy the interfaces to wicket ??

I would like to have a vote about whether the current tree package should be moved to contrib or stay in core.
You can find a short discussion on this with Thread 'Tree component is done'. Core of Jonathan's argument is that the dependency on Swing (most notably TreeModel and DefaultMutableTreeNode) could be confusing for people; they might expect that Swing models should be the base of all Wicket components. My counter argument is that there is no such thing as java.util.tree, but that we use JDK structures for other components (like java.util.List) for ListView and Table. Also, I feel that trees are important components that are probably not as much used by Java developers for web applications just because they are generally hard to build (e.g. with frameworks like Struts). The .NET guys I know on the other hand, have trees just about anywhere where they can put them; they're easy to use with .NET, and trees just can be very powerfull in user interfaces indeed. Furthermore, I think core is a good place for them as they do not introduce new dependencies, and are low level from a component's point of view.
Let's vote :)
- Wicket moves to contrib - Wicket stays in core (+1)

Eelco
