i don't think we're ready to deal with the overhead of branching yet.
furthermore, i'm not convinced that the stuff we want to cut will end up in the 1.1 branch in anything like the form that it's in now.
it's much cleaner and easier to just move stuff to contrib for now. we can work on it there.

I still want to be able to continue discussing 1.1 issues (and continue development) once 1.0 ships.
