Why is it a problem that the examples project depends on the contrib project?
well, it's just one more thing for the beginning user to download and get confused by... i'd rather examples just depended on core and extensions.
It is a showcase afterall. It also depends on a ton of other libraries, so I don't see any problem in it depending on the contrib project.
If your opinion is that the dependency should move to the extensions project, the extensions project should be extended with the contrib components used in the examples project. (does that sentence make any sense?)
i'm not sure what you mean, but we only want stuff in extensions that's really polished. the contrib stuff used by the examples is not ready for prime time. that's another reason i'd rather contrib stuff wasn't in examples... as cool as they are, the contrib examples are like the contrib code... not really quite ready for some beginning user to discover.
i'm okay with leaving it as it is, but i'd love it if someone had the energy to move all the contrib-depending examples to
wicket-contrib/src/java/wicket/contrib/examples
i think that's where they belong for now...

Hmm, the last kit of wicket-examples was easy enough to get going, butagree. i looked at tearing all the examples apart and putting the contrib examples in some place
when I tried with the CVS-HEAD, then it was a real pain in that it
also required wicket-contrib support.
like wicket/contrib/src/java/wicket/contrib/examples, but it was such a hassle that i gave up.
i'd love it if someone would tear out every example in wicket-examples that depends on the
wicket-contrib project and put them all in that folder i just mentioned.
It might have been confused by my trying to use the Ant build script there, rather than maven.
(As an aside. what is the state of Ant within Wicket? There are Ant build.xml scripts but they seem to be written to use lib/*.jar but nothing about what's needed/how to populate it - how feasible would it be to have (a) a maven task to populate it and (b) ant detect the empty lib/ and print a message to say "run 'maven populate-lib'".
That would mean the dependancies are still in 1 place (Maven) but would keep the option of Ant support?

besides moving things around a little, today i updated the web site a bit. in the "quick tour" area, i've trimmed down the examples and beefed up the explanations.
one thing that's missing is the "examples" page which needs to show step-by-step how to download and run the examples, with or without eclipse. it would be a huge help if someone could write the page. my fingers are killing me! ;-)
