I disagree with you that is it unfortunate that people are doing complex things with models. POJO's! That's what makes the whole framework powerfull. Not being able to use POJO directly with forms (form beans) was *the* reason for me to switch from Struts to Maverick two years ago.

The ability to let the model be anything you want is what Wicket really makes powerfull. And it gives us the ability to do complex stuff (not because we want to do complex stuff, but as the requirement is complex) without having to tinker with the components that use them.

it's true that you can do much more complicated things with models, which unfortunately, is what most people are doing... but the simple and straightforward thing to do is going to be to create forms that edit a single model.
