RC3 will probably be released by the within the next two weeks.

We don't have an official management position. And that's a good thing: you can count on things moving slower when we would have. The main reason for not having it is probably the fact that Jonathan left the project last year, after which event Johan, Chris, and I took it over, having Juergen and Martijn joining shortly after, and then after some months Jonathan came back to the project again.

Furthermore as three of us work at the same company (and today we even worked together for a couple of hours), you won't see all communication - e.g. about when to release - at the mailing list. Addidionally, we sometimes use MSN/ICQ and the private admin list to communicate, because otherwise some discussions would just eat up too much time, and less would happen!

So, no management. No specializations either. There's just no need for that. We have our fields we're better in, but generally we everyone can work on everything in the project.

I agree some things could be even better, though you have to understand most of us allready spend just about every single spare minute on Wicket, though that's not allways visible. And to our defense, I followed tons of other OSS project during the years, and Wicket is not doing bad, really. There are * a lot * of projects that wouldn't even have answered this project.

Finally, about bugs. Sometimes things slip by. That's unfortunate. Usually, people will respond, and a lot of times even the same day. However, that doesn't mean we allways agree with the reports, and that it is solved immediately. Depends how much we agree, and how important we think it is. But generally, we appoint it to a version, and that will be the ultimate time it will be fixed.

Can someone please clarify when we are expecting RC3 to get released? I see a lot of noise being made about RC3 being the final release and "this is your last chance to get something into 1.0" yet I see no release schedule anywhere in sight, nor is it clear to me how the rest of the project is being managed.

Specifically, who is managing the project? Is anyone? On your webpage I see a list of contributors but it isn't clear who specializes in what. For example, we know that Chris specializes in clustering issues, but it isn't clear what the rest of the team specializes in.

When I report an issue, sometimes weeks go by before I get a reply from the team. I would like to suggest, and I would appreciate you doing this, that within 24 hours of any issue getting filed, some member of the team replies and schedules the issue. Specifically, what component does it belong to? What is the target milestone? Who is the issue assigned to? All this information should be filled in as soon as possible so the reporter knows when to expect a fix and who to talk to in case of any problems related to the issue. Right now we're left in limbo.

To be clear: I am not asking for exact release dates or any sort of guarantee on the part of the team to fix a bug when it was originally scheduled to be fixed. I am simply asking for ballpark figures, "best effort" to estimates and a general feeling that I know what is going to be happening happening next.

I know this is not of much interest to people with hobby applications but from a commercial point of view it is very important. Just my 2 cents.
