I think we have 2 candidates already ;-), at least for the coming 5 months.
In the mean time, I'll extract and create 2 packages at wicket-stuff for this. We can let our students work directly in (one of) those packages. I'll also create a 0.1 release of each package for further study by other devs and users. The second step would be to merge the autocomplete field effort into the corresponding ajax library.
