Initial Comment:
Now I can file a bug report...

Using the 1.2.013106 release.

>From the spirals tutorials, spiral 06 is broken.
http://drdb.fsa.ulaval.ca/urls/

checkAccess() is not being called upon first request.

In my application also, I on the home page I have a
link to the members area. I click on it from the home
page it takes me straight to the member's area. Once
here if I click on the member's area from the member's
area it will give me the authentication page.

You can reproduce this problem with the signin example.
Create a TestPage that extends AuthenticatedWebPage.
Add a link to TestPage on the SignIn page. When
you click on it, it should goto SignIn again, right?
Well it doesn't, call the checkAccess and directly
shows TestPage.

This does work as expected in 1.1.

Thanks
